Sir,
I have the honour to inform you that His Excellency the Governor has been pleased, on the ground of your continued ill health, to grant a second-class passage to England to yourself and your wife, such passage to be taken at the end of February next.
On arrival in England, you will be permitted to draw all the full pay leave to which you may be entitled at the rate of three shillings to the dollar.
On the expiration of that period, you will cease to be an officer of the Hong Kong Government.
In conclusion, I beg to express, on behalf of the Board, regret for the cause of the decision of His Excellency in this matter, and to hope that your health will be greatly improved by your return to England.
I have the honour to be, Sir, Your most obedient servant,
